A prayer for steadfastness and gratitude. Sharing another beautiful prayer taught by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa), Beloved Huzoor (aba) narrated: “Another narration relates that Abu Ala ibn Shakhir reported from a man of the Banu Hanzalah, who said: ‘I was travelling with Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus when he said, “Shall I not teach you what the Holy Prophet (sa) taught us? He taught us to pray: ‘O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in every matter. I ask You for firmness upon guidance. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your blessings and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a truthful tongue and a sound heart. I seek Your protection from the evil that You know, and I ask You for the good that You know. I seek Your forgiveness and also from that which You know.’” In other words, from Allah and from everyone in the world, one should seek Allah’s grace in every matter and ask Him to make every means of benefit beneficial. “Allah alone possesses knowledge of the unseen.” He alone knows what will truly benefit a person and what will not. You are One and have no partner. To You belongs all praise, and to You belongs all gratitude,” then such a person has fulfilled the gratitude due for that day. Gabriel has informed me that on the Day of Judgment Allah will raise mankind and ask one of His servants, ‘One of My servants did you a favour. Did you thank him?’ The servant will reply, ‘My Lord, I knew that the favour ultimately came from You, so I thanked You.’ (He did not thank the person; he thanked Allah instead).
