Falsehood — A Grave Impurity “The Promised Messiah (as) states: ‘Today, the condition of the world has become extremely precarious. No matter the instance, false witnesses are being fabricated; to file false cases is nothing unusual, forged documents are prepared, false papers are created. When people speak, they carefully avoid the truth and instead utter that which benefits them, even if it is false. Now, one should ask those who do not recognize the need for this Community: is this the religion that the Holy Prophet (sa) brought? Allah the Almighty has declared falsehood to be an impurity and has commanded that it be avoided: “Shun therefore the abomination of idols, and shun all words of untruth.” He has placed falsehood alongside idolatry. Just as a foolish person turns away from Allah and bows before a stone, so too one who adopts falsehood falls into impurity and evil deeds. Standing Firm in Faith “You should be strong in your faith. Never allow the opinions of others to influence your beliefs or make you feel embarrassed about your religion. If you are ever teased or mocked for wearing modest clothing, do not let it shake your confidence. Tell such people that they can mock you all they like, but they will not weaken your beliefs or religious practice. Tell them you have a higher purpose, which is to stand against the world’s moral decline and to eradicate the gap that exists between much of the world and God Almighty. Instead of pulling you away from your faith, their taunts should inspire you to improve your morals and to gain more religious knowledge. Truthfulness in Every Deal “Hazrat Ibn Umar (ra) narrates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: ‘When a person tells a lie, an angel moves a mile away from him because of the foul smell of what he has intentionally committed.’ In another narration, Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) relates that the Holy Prophet (sa) once passed by a heap of grain. He placed his hand into it and felt moisture, so he said, ‘O seller of grain, what is the matter, is it wet inside?’ The man replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah (sa), rain had fallen on it.’ The Holy Prophet (sa) said, ‘Then why did you not place the wet grain on top?’ He then said, ‘Whoever deceives is not from me.’ Thus, those in business should examine themselves over even such minute matters. Balancing Worship, Knowledge & Family Life “As you strive to excel in your pursuit of knowledge, never neglect the rights of worship owed to Allah the Almighty. Traits That Lead to Hypocrisy “In one narration, it is reported from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (ra) that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: ‘There are four traits – whoever possesses them is a complete hypocrite, and whoever has even one of these traits has within him a characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it: if something is entrusted to him, he betrays the trust; when he speaks, he tells a lie; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he quarrels, he uses abusive language.’ All of these are such traits that, in one way or another, directly or indirectly lead to falsehood or are expressions of it. Therefore, these moral weaknesses are signs of hypocrisy. However, the Promised Messiah (as) taught us that our deepest concern and greatest source of restlessness, far beyond any worldly loss or trial, should be whether we are truly walking on the path of righteousness. The Spirit of True Sacrifice “You should never be motivated by a desire to impress others or to gain their praise. Instead, all your efforts should be governed by a pure desire to seek only the love and nearness of Allah the Almighty. For example, if you are given a responsibility within the Jama’at or called for duty at Jalsas or Ijtemas, you should seek to fulfil such duties solely for the sake of Allah and attaining His pleasure, rather than seeking any worldly acclaim or rewards. Guarding the Tongue from Falsehood “In relation to the high standards of truthfulness to which the Holy Prophet (sa) wished to see us adopt, the following is recorded in a tradition: Hafs bin ‘Asim relates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: “It is sufficient for a person to be considered a liar that he goes about repeating everything he hears to others.” We observe, this is a common habit found among people. Even within the Jama’at, this ill-habit is considerably prevalent in some individuals. Some people even write to me about others that he has done this or that. However, when an investigation is conducted, the matter turns out to be false. And when the one who wrote is asked as to who told him, since the allegation is untrue, he simply replies that I only heard about it. And merely based on this hearsay, they cause a commotion everywhere. Fulfilling the True Spirit of Waqf-e-Nau “Over the years, a number of people have expressed their desire to withdraw from the scheme, and they are always excused. While this is their prerogative, they should not forget their responsibilities as Ahmadis and should always strive to honour the conditions of Bai‘at and fulfil the rights of Allah and of mankind. They are polluting minds and thrusting young people in the direction of depravity, indecency and destructive addictions.
